NOT Pasha Bulker Before Running Aground on Nobby's Beach, NSW.

On the New South Wales coast over the last 10 Days we have had horrendous weather conditions which have produced huge seas and gale force winds which have caused chaos and disclocation to many. Those who didn't lose their houses lost power supply to their homes, many people have died as well.
These pictures show are NOT the ship known as the Pasha Bulkar (they are the Selkirk Settler) which didn't make it away from the coast near Newcastle NSW, the captain had trouble getting out to sea in time to avoid the storm's brutal arrival - they are NOT just moments before she went aground.
You can see her live HERE - http://www.coastalwatch.com/camera/cameras_large.aspx?cam=2790&state=NSW

TURNER, Joseph Mallord William 1775-1851

Dido building Carthage
Full title: 'Dido building Carthage, or The Rise of the Carthaginian Empire'

1815

TURNER, Joseph Mallord William
1775 - 1851

One of Turner's most ambitious imitations of the 17th-century French painter Claude. The subject, inspired by Virgil's epic Latin poem, the 'Aeneid', is the building of the North African city of Carthage, which Dido founded. The figure in white on the left is Dido, and on the right is the tomb erected for her dead husband, Sichaeus. In front of Dido is a figure who may be Aeneas: Virgil tells of their love affair, and of Dido's suicide following his departure. Turner was attracted by the human contrast to the theme of empire building. Hints of doom contrast with the serene effects of sunlight.

In Turner's will he asked for this and his 'Sun Rising through Vapour' to be hung between Claude's 'Seaport with the Embarkation of the Queen of Sheba' and 'Landscape with the Marriage of Isaac and Rebecca' at the National Gallery.

Broken Head Surfcheck

My mate Paul checking the surf after picking me up from Ballina Airport. There's something great about visiting the Byron Bay area and staying with him, he's a surf freak!
I'll post some of his artwork soon if he let's me.

Favourite 'Single-Take' Driving Sequence - EVER!

Alot of mystery surrounds this film - reports of the director going to jail for not disclosing the 'Formula 1" driver's name to the authorites and the car being just a Mercedes with a sound edit cut to ramped footage to mention just two. But who really cares?!! No-one I know.

Maiden Voyage

So, this is the first post.
This blog is mainly so my friends in other parts of the world can keep in touch whenever they want and can see pictures of life in general for me in Australia. It's also so I can show you some of the things they send me from wherever they might be.
Here's a shot my mate Chris took when we went to the Shoalhaven River a couple of weekends ago, it's what we do most weekends since I put the boat in the water this summer.
